Last week, a five-year-old boy won a legal battle in the high court on the issue of the ‘no recourse to public funds' (NRPF) policy, which denies families like his access to the welfare safety net many of us take for granted.
The boy's mother, a former key worker born in Zimbabwe, lost her job during the pandemic as she had no childcare available. Despite having leave to remain and her son being born in the UK, as a low-paid migrant worker both her and her son were impacted by the ‘no recourse to public funds' policy.
